Samantha McGuire

Sam McGuire has a varied background in counseling, education, event planning and volunteer management. As National Field Director for American Atheists, she works with local grassroots activists, volunteers and affiliates to help them engage on emerging local civil rights issues, advocate for state level legislation, and build thriving communities.

Sam became involved in secular organizing and activism following the 2012 Reason Rally, first becoming a founding member of the Southern Maryland Chapter of the Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH) and later President of the regional organization. In 2016, she was the coordinator for over 200 volunteers for Reason Rally, as well as helping execute on-site logistics. She was elected to the Board of Directors and as President of the Reason Rally Coalition. Sam served as a volunteer regional director for American Atheists overseeing their local activism in the Mid-Atlantic region, earning her the Atheist Activist of the Year award in 2019. Sam currently serves on the National Board of Camp Quest.

McGuire has a Bachelor’s of Science in Neuropsychology from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s of Science in Counseling from Johns Hopkins. She is a Certified Humanist Celebrant.

Devon Graham

Devon Graham (she/her) is a former evangelical that serves as an assistant state director for American Atheists in Tallahassee, FL. In this role, she spends more than her fair share of vacation time at the Florida Capitol, lobbying against the seemingly infinite number of bad bills coming out of that legislature. She is also the President of the Humanists of Tallahassee (HOT), an up-and-coming group that has been incredibly active in fighting food insecurity in the Big Bend.

In her “real” life, she is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at an unnamed medical school with an active research program studying the developmental neurotoxicology of everything from diabetes drugs to fentanyl. Devon is also the mother of the two most amazing little humanists you’ve ever seen, and she has the pictures to prove it.
